Volunteer Manager

About East Cooper Community Outreach:
Founded as an emergency relief effort in 1989 after the devastation from Hurricane Hugo, East Cooper Community Outreach (ECCO) has since grown into a permanent resource for the community with a mission to provide assistance, guidance, and resources to help our neighbors navigate through life’s challenges. Annually, over 1,500 families receive help through ECCO’s Wellness Pantry, Financial Assistance, Dental & Medical Clinics, Prescription Assistance, Clothing Closet, Asset Development Program, and other services. Enhanced through personal interactions with staff who provide individualized support and coaching for each client, ECCO meets each client where they are and helps them navigate the challenges they are facing with care and compassion. ECCO is also a place where people who want to help their neighbors can find meaningful ways to share their time, talent, and treasure. Each month, more than 400 local neighbors give their time, volunteering at ECCO’s campus on Six Mile Road.

Position Summary:
The Volunteer Manager provides strategic leadership of ECCO’s volunteer program, ensuring that volunteer engagement effectively supports the organization’s mission, programs, and community impact. This position is responsible for the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of volunteer recruitment, engagement, and retention strategies. The Volunteer Manager leads and is responsible for designing volunteer roles, establishing policies and procedures, and managing program operations to align volunteer resources with organizational needs. This role collaborates with staff across departments to integrate volunteers into program delivery and community outreach efforts while cultivating relationships with community partners, businesses, and civic groups to expand volunteer engagement.

Reports to: Director of Programs and Services            FLSA Status: Exempt
Salary Range: $46,500-60,000

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least five (5) years of relevant professional experience, or
  • Associate’s degree and at least seven (7) years of relevant professional experience.

  • Demonstrated experience managing or leading volunteer programs or community engagement initiatives
  • Strong relationship-building and volunteer stewardship skills across diverse communities
  • Ability to analyze program needs and develop volunteer engagement strategies
  • Experience developing, delivering, and evaluating training for adult learners.
  • Effective work habits, including time management, teamwork, and a proactive mindset
  • Previous use of a volunteer management platform or similar database (GetConnected experience is strongly preferred)
  • Comfortable representing the organization at community events, speaking engagements, and networking events.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic, and collaborative team environment
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office software and Google Workspace

Work Environment and Physical Demands:
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and iPads. No adverse environmental conditions are expected. This is largely a sedentary role; however, standing and walking may be occasionally required for client interaction, to assist when short-staffed, and/or in the execution of special events, including fundraisers, outreach efforts, and volunteer opportunities. The position frequently communicates with employees, volunteers, donors, and clients; the ability to exchange accurate information in these situations is required.

Typical work hours for this position include:
Typical work hours are between 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM (Monday through Thursday), and 8:30 AM – 4 PM on Fridays. The position also requires attendance at special events in the evenings or on weekends, approximately once per month.

Part-Time Route Driver/Warehouse Assistant

Position Summary:
The Part-Time Route Driver/Warehouse Assistant will play a key role in supporting the Wellness Pantry Manager, the Wellness Pantry Associate and the volunteers. This position will contribute to the smooth operation of the fast-paced wellness pantry by running the daily route to make pick-ups from several retail donation partners, loading and unloading donations, assisting in maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the warehouse, including rotating/stocking/auditing inventory as well as other program and services support duties as assigned.

Salary Range: $20.00 – $24.00/hour

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Diploma
  • Valid driver’s license and a 5-year driving record with no major incidents

  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and clients.
  • Strong attention to detail, especially in food safety and facility cleanliness.
  • Flexibility to adapt to various roles within the pantry as needed.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office software and Google’s workspace

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

This position operates in a busy warehouse environment and routinely drives a motor vehicle from the ECCO fleet (refrigerated 17’ box truck, Sprinter van, and/or Toyota ADA compliant van), with regular use of a pallet jack, truck lift, and ladder. Constant moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another. Frequently and repetitively moves donated products and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Frequent exposure to outdoor elements such as varied temperatures, precipitation, and wind. Occasional use of computer equipment. The position communicates daily with partners, employees, volunteers, and clients; the ability to exchange clear and accurate information respectfully and positively in these situations is required. 

Typical work hours are between 8:00 AM – Noon, Monday through Friday. Additionally, all staff are required to attend occasional special events in the evenings or on weekends.
