East Cooper Community Outreach has named Turner Merritt as the new Director of Development. Merritt assumed responsibilities on September 17. Responsibilities will include planning and coordinating special events, participate in fund raising projects and assist in public relations.

A graduate of the University of Georgia in 2003, Merritt majored in Sociology and was active in philanthropy efforts on campus. He has worked as a Territory Manager for Shaw Industries in the Charleston area in 2003.

“Turner is a very capable young man. His professionalism and energy will be an asset to ECCO. This is the first Director of Development we have employed. His interpersonal skills and humility will help us better spread the word of ECCO’s good works and create a broader base of support in the East Cooper community,” says Jack Little, ECCO’s Executive Director.

Merritt says, “Its an honor to be part of ECCO during this exciting time. I am so inspired by the impact this organization has had in the east of the Cooper community. I feel truly blessed to be a part of such and amazing team of volunteers and staff. Everyone has a ‘spark!’ It’s contagious! I look forward to taking that ‘spark’ to all who will listen.”

ECCO is dedicated to helping the neighbors of East Cooper who live in situational and generational poverty. Services include emergency food, clothing, and financial assistance, free counseling, prescription assistance, medical and dental care to those who cannot afford them.  For more information on how you can be involved, contact Jan England at 849-9220 ext. 11 or jengland@eccocharleston.org
